Angel of the North

On the way back down from Northumbria stopped off to see the Angel if the North. I took this shot from an unusual angle but I think it says so much about the Angel that is not said with the traditional shot of the arms/wings.

Northumbrian Beach

On a recent trip to Northumbria (more about that to come) I took this simple seascape. I am drawn to these square seascapes, I find they so effectively represent the essence of the beach.

3 Views from the Jungfraujoch

This summer I was lucky enough to attend a Scout camp in Switzerland at Kandersteg the International Scout Campsite (KISC). I was there to follow and photograph over 500 scouts and their leaders from an expedition from Surrey UK. I had an amazing time joining in with the activities and photographing smiling faces all day long. I had a fantastic trip up the Jungfrau (took the train) and managed to take a few photographs for myself.

Seven Sisters View

I had a chance recently to visit my old stomping grounds around Seaford Head and Cuckmere Haven. I know this is a cliche of a shot but it has always meant so much to me whenever I have seen it.

Expressionist Bluebells

My latest image is a bit experimental. I am delving into the world of expressionist art.

Expressionism is defined as : art in which the image of reality is distorted in order to make it expressive of the artist’s inner feelings or ideas.

I feel that all photographs should seek to express the inner feelings of the artist but in the case of expressionist art, distortion is employed as an artistic element.

With this image, i wanted to capture the pure joyfulness of an early Spring morning in a Surrey bluebell wood, that sense of relief from knowing that summer is on its way.

I used ICM (intentional camera movement) to blur the details leaving me with a vague woodland structure and all the colour, because for me, it is the colour that conveys the joy.

I hope you like it.

Charmouth Beach

Hi All, my partner and I spent a fantastic weekend in and around Lyme Regis in Dorset recently. I took this lovely image on the beach at Charmouth. I have tried to capture the spirit and emotion of the scene. I think you can see that better weather was heading our way but these dark clouds add a brooding element to the scene.

Bosham Quay (rework)

Hi All, here is a shot of Bosham Quay (pronounced bos-am) I took back in 2016. I decided, as I do from time to time, to try and rework the image as I have leant so much more recently. I think there is great value in going back and revisiting old material because as Heraclitus said 'No man can step in the same river twice'. I think Heraclitus meant, because the river is constantly changing, but then so is the man. We are all constantly changing and learning and when we come to rework an old image we have changed, changed our point of view, changed our tastes and changed our skills.
